Much Love For K POP Band Big Bang

Super Junior
My journey into KPOP music began when I stumbled into watching Korean Dramas. I was not only fascinated by the actors/actresses on the screen but the OST (Original Sound Tracks) playing throughout the episodes was catchy. I often found myself singing along and wondering, who  the singer(s) were.

After watching, Choi Si-won in the drama "Oh My Lady,"  I fell in love with the title track, "Worthless,"   I had to know who was the good-looking man with the beautiful voice. To my surprise, he was only one in a group of twelve handsome faces in the group "Super Junior"

I continued to watch dramas, learning more about Korean Actors, Actresses, and Idols. But I was pulled in deeper after watching "Boys Over Flower," This mega-hit has one the best OST, I have ever heard. It introduced me to groups like, SS501, T- Max, and Shinee. I was now on the hunt to find out about more K POP.

One day, I was doing research on new groups to listen to, when I came across a YouTube channel that does music video reviews. K POP followers live for the day, their favorite artist(s) release a single, mini album, or album. There are channels devoted to reviewing videos or take requests to review videos. I was surprised at how huge, popular, and important this is. I know for a fact, that certain K POP Idols watch some of the channels.

This particular channel received a request to do a review for a artist by the name of T.O.P. The song  was "Turn It Up" Now while the ladies were enjoying the video as was I, they kept speaking nonstop about a group called, "Big Bang" Now the only "Big Bang, I know is the "Big Bang Theory.

Big Bang
I decided to check "Big Bang" out. What I discovered was they are a South Korean boy band formed by YG Entertainment. The group consist of five members, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung, and Seungri. They officially debuted  on August 19, 2006. They are considered a hip hop group, but majority of their songs have a R&B flavor to them, which I really get into.

They scored a hit right out of the gate with the song "Lies." The song stayed at #1 on Korean music charts for seven consecutive weeks. The song also won song of the year at the 2007 Mnet Korea Music Festival.

The follow up songs, "Last Farewell and Harru Haru," earned the group more popularity and success. They were recognized as the Artist of the Year in 2008 at the Mnet Korean Music Festival, the group extended their wins with three awards at the MTV Video Music Awards in Japan.

The group returned in 2011 with the album, "Tonight." Big Bang emerged as the best Worldwide Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. Several months later, Big Bang released their most successful album, "Alive"  on March 28, 2012. It was the first Korean album to chart on Billboard 200. They followed it up with the special edition album "Still Alive" on June 3, 2012.

To my surprise, I discovered that, Big Bang is a group known for composing and producing their own music. G-Dragon, the group charismatic leader has earned respect and a lot of praise for his unique writing style in the music industry. From I have seen and heard from him the past couple of years, it's rightfully deserved. As a result, Big Bang hold the record for the all-time best selling artist on the internet.
